We were fortunate enough to be interviewed by Street Trucks Magazine to give the Boyd perspective on the 88-98 Chevy and the Sport Truck movement that came out of that body style. While my dad is best known for hot rods it was his contribution to the sport truck scene that put Hot Rods by Boyd and his billet wheels and billet accessories into high gear in the aftermarket. The late eighties and early 90’s were a great time for me watching this unfold. It was right around the time I started driving and watching truck after truck get painted, lowered, and a set of wheels put on it at the shop was great. From before I could remember my dad always had a lowered truck with some one off billet wheels that he made in the garage on it. So when 1988 came around and the new Chevy body style came out it was game on. My dad couldn’t get his hands on one fast enough. The rest is history. Check it out as Dwayne Mayer, Pete Santini, Steve Stanford, and myself talk about those times. Thanks to Street Trucks Magazine, Jason Mulligan, and Marcel Venable for putting this together. Excited to see part 2.

Shown here is our new Pro-Touring HR-74 with a brushed and polished center. The soft satin spoke really allows for a nice contrast to make the polished areas stand out and allow the attention to detail in the machined pockets and windows show through. We pride ourselves on the attention to detail and the range of finishes we offer for our wheels. Shown in 20×10 with 5.25″ backspace.

Another great year at the LA Roadster Show. I have many fond memories of this event. Father’s Day for me and my family always meant going with my dad to this show. It was a family tradition that I am happy to carry on with my family. This year we brought out our new wheel line up and we had a very special treat of displaying the Vern Luce Coupe in our booth. This car was the car that put my dad on the hot rodding map. Everyone remembers and recognizes Cadzilla, Chezoom, and the Boydsters but the Vern Luce Coupe was the car that started the ‘Boyd Look’. It was pretty cool to watch people come up and check it out. You had people that remembered the car then you had people that it was their first time seeing it. Some people that had never seen it before were blown away that the car was built over 30 years ago. While these events are technically “work” for us we have such a great time talking to customers and running into old friends that I would do this kind of “work” anytime over a 9-5 job working for someone else.

We get a lot of requests for pictures of our ceramic clearcoat on wheels. Pictures don’t do it justice. You really have to see the stuff in person to appreciate it. The stuff is so clear it’s hard to tell that there is anything on the wheel. This HR-01 has brushed tops and polished lip and windows. The entire wheel was then clearcoated with our ceramic clearcoat. This HR-01 sits next to the Vern Luce Coupe with some original Boyd Coddington machined knock off stars circa 1981.
