Pro Touring Wheel Headquarters

19x8 and 20x12 PT-01

We have been catering to the Pro-Touring market long before that term for the latest automotive segment even existed. Originally part of our Multi-Piece Forged series the PT-01 and the rest of our Pro-Touring line cater to lightweight designs, performance brake clearances, and a wide array of sizes and backspaces. Shown above are a pair of brushed center polished outer PT-01 in 19×8 and 20×12. If your looking for the ultimate performance wheel set up look no further. Contrary to some of the information that is being thrown around out there about 3pc wheels being better than 2pc, 2pc welded construction wheels are far superior to 3pc wheels for a number of reasons. 2pc wheels are pound for pound stronger and outperform 3pc wheels in cornering and radial fatigue tests. 2pc wheels in most cases can be made lighter due to the lack of hardware. Speaking of hardware would you build a race car chassis by bolting it together or wouldn’t you just trust the strength of welding? Sizes and offsets. There is now a wide array of diameters and widths that fit 98% of the tires available for performance vehicles. Both our centers and our outers are made of 6061 aluminum unlike most 3pc rim shells that are made of 5000 series aluminum. Now the only thing 3pc wheels have over 2pc wheels is the ability to chrome the wheels. If your into that then go for it, but if your into a nice looking wheel that performs stick with 2pc.

24×15″ Slayers

Some 24×15′s Slayers we just finished up for a customer. Really big. This is about the largest width and diameter we can make in our 2pc line of wheels. They do look good on the right car that is built around these wheels. These won’t fit on your average car or truck.

Above we show the same 24×15 Slayer next to a 17×8 rim. A lot has changed over the years. 20 years ago that 17″ rim was big. To see what tires go on these bad boys check out the Pirelli 405/25r24 here

Boyd Burnout approved

David Womack from Tucson, AZ shows off his new Smoothie 3′s on his super clean 1955 Chevy. 18×8′s in the front with 18×10′s in the rear lit up by a nice 502 motor. Ridetech coilovers in the front and their 4 link in the rear. This thing sits nice and sounds great. Boyd Burnout approved.

Boyd Coddington built cars on Velocity’s Chasing Classic Cars

While I didn’t get a chance to see if for myself I heard good things about the episode of Chasing Classic Cars on Discovery’s Velocity Channel where 3 cars built by my dad were auctioned off. You can check out a snippet of the video here

2012 Good Guys Del Mar Boyd Coddington Memorial Award

This is the 4th year my brother Gregg and I have given out the Boyd Coddington Memorial Award at the Good Guys Del Mar show. As always Del Mar doesn’t disappoint. The weather was a little chilly but not enough to scare anyone away. Lots of great cars to choose from and we’re glad Good Guys continues to support this award in memory of our father. For the award we decided to build a billet award design that our father used for some of the Pro’s Pick awards he used to give out. Anodized gold with a machine finish. We’re really happy with the way it turned out. It’s always a challenge to pick just one car at these shows. There were so many worthy rides but this year we decided that Ryan Reed’s 1937 Ford Coupe was hands down one of the coolest cars at the show. Ryan really put the attention to detail into this one. Killer stance, flawless paint and interior. Nothing dated or trendy about this car at all. Ryan built this all himself at his shop in Corona, CA. Definitely something our dad would have thought was super cool.

We look forward to coming back next year to pick another ride that is worthy of getting the Boyd Coddington Memorial Award. Many thanks to the Good Guys for their support.

replacement caps for older Boyd Coddington 8 lug GM wheels are available

We have a limited supply of 8 lug threaded GM caps available. These are the same caps that were on all GM 8 lug Boyd Coddington branded wheels from 1999-2004 that took a threaded cap. These caps need to be torqued down to 70 pounds using the oval tool they originally came with. Right now we only have the caps and not the oval tools. There is a limited supply so call now and get them while you can. 866-612-2693.

2012 4th Annual Boyd BQ

The 4th Annual Boyd BQ couldn’t of had a better day weatherwise. The sun was out all day and the temp stayed at right around 80 for most of the event. Lots of family and friends showed up to remember my father, Boyd Coddington. The turnout was bigger this year with a couple cool surprises. My brother Gregg kicked off the party by sliding in his little roadster sideways down Orange Ave as he pulled into the driveway. Walt Baynes showed up with his Boyd built roadster. My dad built the roadster back in 1988 and the front end resembles the original Boydster and is actually it’s predecessor.  Walt has kept the thing in perfect condition and he still takes it out and puts some miles on it. We decided to have a little live music this year so a Coddington family favorite, Brother Yusef, laid down the blues all afternoon. Tacos were served up and the beer supplied by Boyd Brewing flowed until it was gone. Its always a great time to catch up with old friends and family and have a good time in memory of someone special.

Tri-Five Revived

There are some classic looks that you’ll never get away from and that will never be dated when it comes to classic looking wheels. Wheels are the most important part of the looks of your vehicle next to the paint. So when we design classic wheels for hot rods and muscle cars we like to pay homage to the classics of the past and focus on detail and making each and every wheel something you would be proud to roll on. This is exactly the approach we took when we produced the Tri-Five. After a few variations we have finally nailed it. This classic 5 spoke has unmatched design and machining elements that set it apart from the rest. As you can see from the detail shots the depth of design and the execution of the machining and polishing is flawless. The Tri-Five comes in 17-22″ in widths from 7″ to 15″. We machine to order and most 5 lug patterns can be made.

Think your billet wheels are demolished??? Think Again

This is an actual before and after picture of a wheel we repaired recently. Blown tire, customer had to drive on it to get off the highway and the before picture was the resulting damage. As long as the center is straight(95% percent of the time it is) we can cut the old rim off and put a new rim on. As you can see from the after pic this customer is getting back what appears to be a brand new wheel. It’s not. Just his old wheel that has been repaired with a brand new polish job. We also offer polishing and refinishing services as well.  So don’t throw away those old billet wheels. Let us repair them and make them brand new for you. If it’s billet, we can fix it. billetwheelrepair.com
