Long time Boyd friend and employee, Pete Peterson, passes away

This past weekend long time Hot Rods by Boyd driver and friend Pete Peterson passed away. Pete Peterson started working for my dad before I can remember. They called him Purple Pete because of his beyond red face. Pete was hard to miss with his white curly hair and that red face and the great attitude. Pete was my dad’s go to guy when it came to hauling a car cross country or going to a car show. Some of you might remember Pete from the 90’s when he used to drive Big Red and Big Yellow attending car shows for Hot Rods by Boyd and Boyds Wheels across the country. Pete was notorious for his sayings. My dad could call him at 3am to go pick up a car back east and he’d hop in truck and say “It all pays the same”. Pete was the posterchild for the saying “Don’t work hard, work smart”. I don’t know how many times we’d get to a car show and he’d tell me to get up on top of the rig to put up the awnings(which easily took a couple hours start to finish) and Pete would say”I’ll be right back I need to go find a screwdriver”. 2 hours later he would show up once we had it all torn down or put up with that screwdriver. So Pete was smart by making lots and lots of friends across this country so a helping hand was never too far away for him. Pete had an uncanny knack of schmoozing people over and getting into places for free or a small fee. The stories of Pete getting into the Winternationals every year with a box of donuts for the people at the gate are absolutely true.
We will miss Pete. I am thankful that I have many fond memories of the guy and I want to thank him for all the ‘Indian Tricks’ he taught me over the years.

Happy New Year

From all of us at Hot Rods by Boyd we would like to thank you for making 2013 a great year for us. We are really excited about 2014. We will have a lot of exciting new products to offer and a lot of cool projects going on. Below is a collage of some of the cooler things that went on for us in 2013. Have a great New Years and be safe.

1964 Ford Galaxy with 20″ Perfected

Our man Les Dalisay from San Mateo just got his 1964 Galaxy on the road and we absolutely love it. Bill Ganahl at South City Rod and Custom did all the work. The Galaxy sports a 2011 Coyote motor with a 5 speed manual trans and full air ride suspension. I rode around the bay area in it over the weekend and this thing is bad ass. That motor was the perfect fit and runs really quiet until you get on it then it raps up those Borlas and sounds like a wild beast. The 20″ painted and polished Perfecteds were the right fit on the Galaxy.

Sport Truck Survivor

We were stoked to pick this little Sport Truck era survivor up this weekend. Less than 8500 miles on it before we drove it home. The thing looks and drives brand new. 15″ Boyd billet tri-fans, 350 motor, full leather seats, corvette rear suspension, tonneau cover, billet accessories inside, hidden hitch. While she looks cool this way it’s going to see some upgrades in the near future. Going to bring her down a bit and put some new shoes on her.

1955 Chevy with Centennials

The latest build coming out from Duane Mayer and American Hot Rods is this 1955 Chevy sporting some new Gotcha Series Centennials. 17×8 up front with a standard profile and 18×10  with the concave profile. These Centennials have the combination Charcoal and Polished finish. Some more things to get done before the build is finished but at least she has a new pair of shoes.
