A lot of people remember Duane Mayer as the hot headed foreman of Boyd Coddington’s Garage on the hit Discovery Channel show , American Hot Rod. What most people don’t know is that Duane’s history and relationship with Boyd goes back into the mid-eighties when Duane dropped everything he had in Wisconsin to head out to California to live the American hot rodding dream. We sat down with Duane and he took us through that long history to give us some insight on himself, Boyd, and the evolution of hot rodding in California in the 80’s and 90’s.

New Rear Profile Option for the Signature Series Amarillo
We are introducing a new rear profile option for the Signature Series Amarillo. For most rear applications hub clearance isn’t an issue so we are introducing a new profile for 20″ diameter Amarillos to take full advantage of this and offer a deeper concave profile. Shown here in 20×12 on the left next to a 19×8 standard Amarillo on the right. This set of Amarillos features a combination polished and bronze Cerakote finish. If you have any questions about fitment and if the rear profile is an option for you please give us a shout and we can help you determine if this will work for you.
How we use Cerakote in the design and building process
Cerakote Colors
At HRBB we take pride in our designs and the custom finishes we come up for them. A big part of the success we have with how are finished wheels come out is due to the amount of time we spend detailing each and every wheel and the quality coatings we apply to them. Hot Rods by Boyd is proud to use Cerakote as our coating of choice for most of our wheel line up. Not only is it a durable finish that holds up to the high temperatures of the assembly process but it has an amazing look to it that transforms even those plainest of billet designs into a work of art. The links below will take you to different examples of the Cerakote colors used on different wheels that have left our shop.

HRX-4 on Penfound Design Scramjet Camaro
We’ve had the pleasure of working with Barry Penfound of Penfound design on a number of his projects. Last year Barry came to us with his Scramjet concept and wanted us to build a set of one off wheels for it. The result was a full face covered lug wheel we did in a brushed and polished finish. After showing the car a few times with that set of wheels Barry hit us up about changing the look of the car with some of the new HRX-4 series wheels. The decision to go with 19×8 and 19×10 HRX-4’s with a combination charcoal and brushed finish really changed the look and showed off our new wheels rather nicely.
